Often a very small piece of the black metallic center of the drum, called the siahi, will become loose causing an annoying buzzing sound with each hit. It can be difficult to find this spot as it is usually very small. However, its an easy fix once you do. You will need
- a magnifying glass
- a bright lamp, flash light or spot light lamp
- super or crazy glue
- paper towel or cloth
Aim the lamp at the tabla head
and put the magnifying glass above an area of the siahi (black center
circle). Strike the drum and examine for the buzzing section. You may
need a friend to help you either hold the magnifying glass or strike the
drum. Using a finger, systematically silence different areas to see if
the buzz stops. Through process of elimination and a lot of patience you
should be able to find it.
Once you find the buzz, apply a small amount of super glue and wipe off any excess with the paper towel. Allow to dry for 15 minutes before checking to see if it worked. Please note that there may be more than one buzz to find!
